ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) imposed a fine of Rs1 million each on two private Pakistani television channels, Samaa TV and Waqt TV for what it described as “projecting terrorists and airing blood and gore.”
Both channels had reportedly aired interviews of Malik Mumtaz Qadri, the self-confessed assassin of late Governor Punjab, Salmaan Taseer. According to the press release, Pemra has taken immediate cognisance of the violations committed by these two satellite TV channels while covering the assassination of Governor Punjab, Salmaan Taseer.

Pemra says both of the channels were provided reasonable opportunity to show cause and explain their position in personal hearings held on January 6 and 10, 2011.
